The making of ze’ ball.
This was my second ever casting project and first time working with wax molds and bronze.
Working with metal can be so incredibly frustrating and at times painful, however never have I worked in a medium so fulfilling. I think it’s one of the closest things to magic out there.
Three weeks and a 56 min long video edited down into a little over a minute. How crazy.
My process for this piece started with a plaster mold made from a small bouncy ball. Then poured wax into my plaster mold to create a hollow wax mold. From there I packed sand mixed with resin around my wax mold with added vents. Then came the hottest part… the bronze pour. After waiting a day I broke the sand mold. Then much filing, sanding, media blasting and angle grinding. Then even more sanding… I used a heat activated patina. Then sanded some more. Added twine + dried flowers = shiny metal holey moldey lookin ball.
